An Unstable Universe

The universe of EVE Frontier is a vast region in space trapped within the gravitational forces of three shifting black holes. This space, comprised of several regions, is further separated into constellations made up of solar systems. Players will travel between these disparate systems searching for territory to control and topology to tame.

A dizzying variety of biomes will be discovered as exploration of the solar systems commence. The differences among biomes presents opportunity costs and comparative advantages. As a result, specialized Smart Assemblies can be created to optimize for each biome’s unique nature. This will naturally develop into differences in the local economy, favoring certain resources or techniques over others depending on the region of space the player calls home. We expect differing cultures to develop as emergent behavior, stemming from the unique challenges each biome presents, much like how nullsec and wormhole space culture were forged through the locations’ unique challenges.

An ever present challenge on the frontier is fighting against entropy. In space everything erodes away from the harshness of the environment. Just like every action on the frontier costs energy, every asset needs ongoing protection and upkeep to stay anchored in space. Most notably, everything is up for grabs from other players, for every “sand castle in space” you build will have people wanting to take it from you or just plain destroy you.

These dynamics we have observed in games like EVE Online breed social bonds and economies to protect ones creations from the hostility of space and that of other players.
